Faith is one of the most commonly used words in religion, yet its meaning is often misunderstood. Many think of faith as a vague feeling, a comforting belief, or an abstract idea. True biblical faith, however, is much more specific: it is belief plus trust in God, demonstrated through our actions.
Faith grows from knowing God’s commands, learning His ways, and making choices aligned with His will. It is not a mystical force that automatically transforms us, nor is it simply an emotion to feel. The daily decisions we make reveal where our faith truly rests – whether in God, ourselves, human authority, or traditions – and it is often tested through adversity.
Scripture shows faith in action. Hebrews 11 highlights those who lived by faith: Abel, Noah, Abraham, and Moses all demonstrated trust in God through obedience, even when the outcome was uncertain. James 2:18 reminds us, “I will show you my faith by my works.” Faith is not passive; it requires reflection, continual learning, and self-examination.
Faith can also be misdirected. When trust shifts from God to ritual, tradition, or human authority, the purpose of faith is lost. True faith keeps the spirit and the law because it trusts God, not the act itself. It is a lifelong journey of learning, testing, and acting, shaping how we live, serve, and love.
Faith is living trust – the evidence of where your heart and mind truly rest.
