The Gospel Jesus Preached truthsum.org
What if the gospel is bigger than you were ever told? What if forgiveness of sins is not the destination—but the doorway? And what if Jesus’ primary message was not simply about personal salvation, but about the restoration of God’s rule over the earth?
Christianity rightly emphasizes the cross, forgiveness, and grace. Without Christ’s sacrifice, there is no reconciliation with God and no hope of eternal life. Yet when the Gospels record Jesus announcing “the gospel,” they consistently show Him proclaiming something more. From the beginning of His ministry, Jesus declared: “The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel” (Mark 1:15). The gospel Jesus preached was the good news of the coming Kingdom of God.
Jesus did not travel from town to town preaching about going to heaven when you die. He preached about a real, future Kingdom—a government that will replace the kingdoms of men and restore the earth under God’s rule. He taught His disciples to pray, “Your kingdom come,” and after His resurrection, He continued speaking to them about “the things pertaining to the kingdom of God” (Acts 1:3).
The cross does not replace this message; it makes it possible. Christ’s death and resurrection are the means by which sinners can be forgiven and prepared to inherit the Kingdom He proclaimed. Throughout Scripture, the Sabbath, the holy days, and the prophets all point forward to this same hope—a future age of restoration, peace, and righteous rule.
Jesus warned that false gospels would arise, not by denying Him, but by subtly distorting His message. The only safeguard is to compare what is preached today with what Jesus Himself called “the gospel.”
