What Does the Feast of Unleavened Bread Mean for Christians? – Vince Szymkowiak ucg.org

An increasing number of Christians worldwide are rediscovering the biblical festivals outlined in Leviticus 23, seeing them in the context of Jesus Christ’s life and mission. Jesus, the sacrificial Passover lamb, inaugurated the plan of salvation, while also starting His Church on the Feast of Pentecost (Acts 2). Amidst these festivals is the seven-day Feast of Unleavened Bread, occurring immediately after Passover. While significant events like the Exodus and the crossing of the Red Sea are associated with this feast, its greatest event is the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The resurrection occurred during the Feast of Unleavened Bread, marking a pivotal moment in human history. Jesus’ promise of resurrection, fulfilled after three days and nights, underscores the importance of this event. His resurrection signifies victory over sin and death, offering new life to believers. The apostle Paul emphasized the symbolism of unleavened bread, representing sincerity and truth, urging Christians to rid themselves of sin. The essence of this feast lies in Christ’s indwelling presence, enabling believers to overcome sin.

Paul’s exhortation to “put on the armor of light” and “be clothed with the Lord Jesus Christ” highlights the spiritual battle against sin. Surrendering to Christ’s power within us grants strength to conquer sin. As Jesus Himself proclaimed, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” The resurrection assures believers of eternal life and empowers them to live victoriously.

The Days of Unleavened Bread remind us that Christ lives in us, enabling us to overcome sin and live in righteousness. Without Christ’s resurrection, our faith would be futile, and we would remain in sin. His resurrection breathes life into the spring festivals, revealing profound truths about His mission and our salvation. It’s time to delve deeper into these biblical festivals and grasp their significance in the context of Jesus Christ’s life and teachings.
