Jesus Birth youtu.be

Each December, millions celebrate the birth of Jesus on December 25th. But was He really born on that date? The Bible points to a very different time of year.

If we look back to the story of John the Baptist’s father, Zacharias, we see that he was a priest serving in the temple during the course of Abijah, the eighth priestly division. According to 1 Chronicles 24:10, this division served in the 10th week of the Jewish calendar, which falls in mid-June.

Why does this matter?

While Zacharias was serving, an angel told him that his wife, Elizabeth, would conceive a son, John. After completing his service, Zacharias returned home, and Elizabeth conceived shortly thereafter—likely in late June.

According to Luke 1:26, “Elizabeth was six months pregnant when the angel Gabriel appeared to Mary, announcing that she would conceive Jesus.” This places Jesus’ conception in December. If we count forward nine months, Jesus was likely born around Tishri, in mid to late September—not December 25th.

While the Bible intentionally does not provide an exact date for Jesus’ birth, it gives us enough context to recognize that the traditions surrounding December 25th are likely not accurate. As we strive to worship God in truth, our focus should be on Christ’s life, His message, and the profound impact of His sacrifice for all mankind, rather than on man-made birthdays or Christmas traditions.
