Many wonder about the historical accuracy of the Bible. Some, by faith, believe that God inspired various servants down through time, to accurately record various historical events for mankind’s benefit. Others, however, put their trust in science, believing in physical evidence alone. Very recently though, God and science have been brought together! This past summer, archaeologists have been able to identify the ancient Philistine city of Gath. This is the city that Goliath, of David and Goliath fame, was from. A temple located within the city also provides credible evidence of an enemy of the Philistines, namely Samson. In the rubble of the temple, two bases were found that had been used to support two huge pillars which would have supported the entire building. So science has proven God’s inspired word to be true. The Philistine temple that Samson brought down, according to biblical record, was indeed built of a different design than other Middle Eastern temples of the time!
