There are many lessons we can learn from God’s relationship with ancient Israel. By covenant, they became a called-out people destined to live by God’s law, with God dwelling among them (Exodus 25:8-9). However, this relationship was external. Israel did not have internal access to God’s Spirit; this changed with Christ’s sacrifice (Hebrews 9:14-15).

Through Christ, the new covenant involves God’s Spirit dwelling within believers, transforming an external relationship to an internal one (Hebrews 10:14-16). Paul describes this new covenant as a ministry of the Spirit, giving life and surpassing the old ministry of the letter (2 Corinthians 3:6-8).

God’s purpose is unity, transforming believers into His image through the Spirit (2 Corinthians 3:18). Israel’s failure to internalize God’s law led to their scattering. However, the new covenant, written in the hearts and minds of believers, promises a future unity (Jeremiah 31:31-33).

This transformation is the ministry of the Spirit, creating a deep spiritual connection with God (Romans 8:16). The law, once external, is now internal, making us a dwelling place for God (Ephesians 2:21-22). This unity of the Father, Son, and believers forms a unified Church, reflecting God’s ultimate purpose for humanity.
