The Mystery of the Trinity: Is God Truly Unknowable? – Part 1 truthsum.org
Many assume that the God of the Old Testament was the Father, but Scripture tells a different story. John 1:18 says no one has seen the Father at any time, yet countless Old Testament figures saw and spoke with God. Jesus clarified this mystery—He came to reveal the Father, because the One known to Israel throughout their history was actually the Word, who later became Christ.
This has profound implications. Jesus didn’t come to introduce a different God but to reveal the One Israel had not truly known. The Father had remained unseen and unheard directly—until Jesus came as His perfect representation. Christ’s mission was not only to bring salvation but also to make known the Father’s nature, purpose, and desire for a family.
Misunderstanding this distinction clouds the very relationship Jesus came to establish. If we blur the lines between the Father and the Son, we lose sight of the relational structure God has revealed. Knowing who the Father is—and why Jesus points us to Him—is essential for true worship and eternal life (John 17:3).
Coming in Part 2: How the Trinity doctrine misrepresents God’s identity—and why it may be a form of theological idolatry.
