We are reminded in this article that Pentecost is the third of seven successive Holy Days. This third Holy day is also the third step in the plan of God.

Its name is very telling in how this day is to be kept and what it represents. Known in the Old Testament as the Feast of Weeks and the New Testament as Pentecost(Literally meaning 50 or count 50) highlights the necessity to count in determining the day that this festival is to be kept. Starting with “the day after the Sabbath” during the Feast of Unleavened Bread when a wave sheaf was offered, “seven Sabbaths shall be completed. Count fifty days to the day after the seventh Sabbath.”

This day is also called the day of firstfruits. Israel was to bring a new grain offering to the LORD. This was in no small part to represent the role of the New Testament Church. (Rev 14:4) These are the ones who follow the Lamb wherever He goes. These were redeemed from among men, being firstfruits to God and to the Lamb.

Pentecost reveals the Church has a greater calling than only salvation. The Church is called as first fruits. It is to be working in preparation for a greater harvest and preparing for the next step in the plan of God. As fulfilled in & on this day, God has given his servants fellowship with one another and help through His spirit.

Act 2:38) “Then Peter said to them, ‘Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. …’
