Millions of Americans celebrate Thanksgiving Day each year. For many the day is little more than a routine holiday party complete with wonderful traditional food items and plenty of football on TV and in backyards across the country. Some people will be spending part of their day pouring over newspaper ads preparing their “plan of attack” for a successful Black Friday Shopping sore the following day. Few will consider their personal blessings and those of our nation to examine reasons to be genuinely grateful. For those Americans that actually give thanks to God on Thanksgiving Day, it may be the only time of year when they do so.

For true Christians thanksgiving should be a daily occurrence. Thankfulness is the expression of our gratitude and the acknowledgment of the kindness done to us. It is a positive state of mind that does not focus on what one does not have, but rather on values what one does have. Being thankful shows God that we know and understand everything comes from him and we are mindful of his generosity. Our prayers should reflect our gratitude towards God for what he has done in our lives and what he gives us. Salvation and eternal life are the most precious gifts that we can ever possibly receive. We can thank God everyday that he has called us to them. God is always deserving of our praise and thanks!
