The God Who Is – Jeremy Lallier sabbaththoughts.com
Is there a god and if so, who is God? A question for the ages of which few find the answer. The Bible writes of one man that struggled with this question but had the unique opportunity to ask God in person. Moses, being raised in Egypt, grew up well aware of “gods”, so when he asked God directly “who do I say, to the children of Israel, has sent me?” he truly wanted to know. A peculiar answer at first glance, God said “I AM WHO I AM,” tell them “I AM” sent you. As one considers it, this name “I AM” describes God’s very nature. He is the God who has always existed and is self-sustaining. As all mighty He created all and has total authority and dominion over everything. Demonstrating his understanding of what he was told, Moses tells Israel, “Our God is Eternal and the Eternal is the only God.” Now fast forward and we come to the gospels where Jesus identifies himself as “I AM.” A statement that was worthy of death had it not been true. He is the Eternal, the Almighty, the God of our fathers and the one who spoke with Moses generations before.
