In Genesis 14, we meet Melchizedek, the “king of Salem” and “priest of God Most High.” He blesses Abram after his victory and receives a tithe from him, offering bread and wine—a gesture echoed in the New Covenant Passover. Though Genesis mentions Melchizedek briefly, his significance unfolds in Psalms and Hebrews.

Psalm 110:4 prophesies a Messiah who will be “a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek,” linking him to Jesus Christ. Unlike the Levitical priesthood tied to lineage, this priesthood is eternal and unique.

In Hebrews 7, Melchizedek is described as “king of righteousness” and “king of peace,” without lineage, beginning, or end—a portrayal that aligns with Jesus’ eternal nature. The author emphasizes that Jesus, like Melchizedek, holds an everlasting priesthood, not inherited but rooted in the power of an endless life.

Melchizedek’s identity as the pre-incarnate Christ underscores His eternal role as our perfect High Priest. Through Him, we have access to God, intercession, and salvation. Jesus, the King of Righteousness and Peace, remains our eternal mediator, uniting humanity with the Father.
