Halloween: Treat, or Trick? – Richard A. Wilson tomorrowsworld.org
There is a Gaelic tradition that says, at Samhain, the doors to the underworld open— allowing dead souls and harmful spirits to enter our world. Modern Halloween costumes originated as an attempt to mask one’s identity as protection from those harmful spirits. This tradition melded with the practice of “souling”. This was a practice where children and the poor would go house to house offering up songs and prayers for the dead in exchange for cakes. The modern tradition of going door to door for candy did not become in vogue till the late 50’s. Is there really any harm in dressing up and participating in this ancient pagan ritual; to give honor to evil spirit’s? We know it’s stated in the book of Revelations that Satan deceives the whole world. The Mischievous role play often acted out during Halloween is simply playing with evil. It foolishly invites this deceptive spirit into our thoughts and lives. Satan and his fallen angels are real and active every day of the year. Halloween, the holiday, is nothing more than a clever counterfeit that distracts from God’s true Holy Days and great plan of salvation.
